REFLECTION 10…

Good evening everyone……

We had  a presentation slot this time with Jannah and Nora. The first presenter was Nora. She describes learner diversity in Malaysia. It refers to all inclusive, collection mixture of all human differences and similarities  along a given dimension.  The dimension of diversity are educational background, learning style, disability, age, gender, religion and so on. Level of teachers perspective towards school diversity is still in moderate level. Teacher take things lightly in the education content. Ministry of education and school must execute awareness programs and facilities for teachers and students should be improved.

Next presenter was Jannah. She discussed about how education for all will be achieved. It depends on government and society. In government, They should state that primary school education is compulsory for all children. Children should master 3M. Special schools for special needs children should be provided and also some financial aid for the person who needs it. Government also must be based on  co-curriculum and curriculum syllabus so that it will be easier for teachers to conduct the classes. Special schools should increased to help the special children to get their education in a correct way.Society should should have self  awareness of about the importance of education in future and also self experience in education.

That’s all…thank you…:)

REFLECTION 9…

Good evening everyone….I hope that everybody are doing fine…..

This week, we had another session of joyful presentation. The presentation was started by Shafika. The slide show was entitled global and analytical learners. Her presentation was quite nice. Basically, learning styles explains how individual  interacts with information. There is global and analytical learning style. No person is bound by one learning style. The global style is linked to the right hemisphere of the brain. It takes information holistically. It prefers background music. While, The analytical style involves the left hemisphere brain. It takes information sequentially step by step. It requires quite surrounding. Global workers prefer to work in groups than alone. They prefer to work on multiple tasks at once. They always see on a big picture. While  analytical learners prefer to study alone. They tend to work on one task until completion. They focuses on parts that make up a big picture. Teachers can identify the key differences in students learning styles to support them.Teachers can develop a lesson plan that suits both learners such as incorporating narratives, and group works. They can provide an activity the follows sequence and so on that leads to larger concept of understanding.Numerous assessment test allows individuals to determine their own learning styles and help parents and teachers to find way to encourage teaching.Analytical learners provide traditional class setting, shows and organize the sequences of information and leads to larger concept of understanding.

Next presenter was Imran. His  presentation also quite nice. He explained about teaching youth with learning disability. There is few elements which is dyslexia, discalculia, disgraphia, aphasia and dyspraxia. He explained each one of it very well. Students with dyslexia have problems with reading. They can be taught to use time wisely and teacher should provide handouts, utilize other resources and so on.For dysgraphia, they have problem in writing. They can be taught by providing remediation to improve their handwriting. they also should be allowed for accomodation.Task should modified to avoid problems. Then, for discalculia who have problems in mathematics and logic. They should start with solid foundation of number recognition and operations.Real life situation or mathematical concept should be used whenever possible. Music and games can be used for memorization process.Hand held calculators also can help the students. For the aphasia’s, they have difficulty in language. They  can use picture cards for learning. They can cut out pictures from magazines or print them.Picture cards are most helpful exercise in home to help the students.Specific programs are available for aphasia therapy. For the children with  dyspraxia, they have problem with their motor skills. They should be given short, precise instruction and engage in as eye contact.Activities such as clapping, hopping, and marching to music thant he recognize can be fun.

Next was ana’s presentation. She presented about the learning disability. First was dyslexia. They have problems in reading, writing and so on.The common signs are painfully reading, difficulty in basic letter sounds, trouble in decoding and cannot recall known words. In dysgraphia, they have problems with handwriting and spelling. The common signs are awkward pencil grip, illegible handwriting, frustration with writing thoughts on paper and so on.It results in irregular letter sizes and shapes, causes writing fatigue, interferes with communication idea in writing and results in unfinished letters and so on.In dyscalculia,  they have problems in doing mathematical problem, understanding time and money. The common signs are  difficulty recalling number sequence, may mistake number that have similar shape and so on.They can’t remember the specific facts ,learning musical concepts, learning abstract concepts and so on.While, children with aphasia have difficulty with language. They have problem in understanding spoken language, poor reading, difficulty expressing thoughts verbally and frustrated when speaking.

Reflection 8…..

A very good evening everyone….

This is my eighth reflection. This week is i and kak na’s turn where i had presented about the Provision of Public Law 99-457. I was less confident at first because i can’t understand the topic clearly. Public law 99-457 is aimed to provide early intervention services for all eligible children as defined by legislation. The components of EHA part C was proven and was retained and refined to maximize support towards achieving the objectives of the early new intervention and preschool initiatives.

The public law not only focuses on the child but also on the family. Law shifts from a child-centered, single agency planning effort to a family focused and multidisciplinary effort. Individualised  Family Service Plan is a paramount importance to the child and family. It is a statement of child’s present level of physical development, cognitive development and so on.

As far as i know about inclusion is it is divided to six components…

There are six phases of inclusion. Students may be included by the definition of inclusion’promoting the restructure of general education so that all students are educated in that setting from the beginning of their school careers’.

1.Social inclusion

any student can be placed within general education and not to be accepted. The appropriate social skills for social integration are not taught or have not been taught.

2. Emotional inclusion

After a student has received a majority of his/her education separated from general education and is returned to general education,an emotional shock from change may arise. Rules, routines, procedures and so forth are different. Classwork and assignments are new.

3. Behavioural inclusion

New behaviours are expected as environments change- both for students and teachers. Many students behaviours became misbehaviours when inclusion occurs.

4. Physical inclusion

his face of inclusion probably was the first concept for inclusion and relates to the mandate of least restrictive environment. The placement met the concept of the law may not have allowed for an appropriate eduction.

5. Academic inclusion

Physical inclusion is normal. Academic inclusion needs growth.

6.Inclusion by Assessment standards

Next was Farah’s presentation….

Farah did about the five features behaviors towards low achiever mentioned by Kauffman. The students should know consequences of appropriate behavior and misbehavior. Teacher should give clear direction and hold firm their expectations. Teacher should provide instruction which is clear to the children. Teachers must find a way to make their material used interesting. Teacher should reward the right behavior. They must give attention primarily when students are behaving in appropriate way. There are some demands appropriate for children’s abilities which is high expectation leads to the students pressure and so on….

Then Niesa presents her slide…..

Niesa did about multidisciplinary team. She have to describe the roles of five members in the team who is general and special educator, principal, parents and students. The general educator shares with other consultant about the goals that can be achieved and so on.  The special educator recognizes suitable techniques to be used towards students with special needs.Parents should provide information about the students current performance. Principal should monitor’s the students movement in school.Students are responsible for their own studies outcome.

That’s all for today…thank you…:)

TUTORIAL REFLECTION 7…..:) -Week 8

A very good morning everybody….

It’s been a long time since i updated my blog. I’m very sorry about that because i had been busy with my micro teaching past few weeks.

Let’s move on to the tutorial questions. Our beloved lecturer, Prof Rosseni had divided few assignments to us.One of it is the presentation based on a topic given. There is some students who present alone and some with their pair. It depends on the question.  We had some lovely cupcakes provided by our lecturer during the presentation. Thank you ummi…:)

The first presenter was Adira. She presented about” learner diversity and differentiated teaching”. It is quite interesting as it was easy to understand the points. She emphasized on the components of ‘SAALE MODEL’ and how a teacher can use it in teaching and learning process. ‘SAALE’ stands for S- systematic, A- approach for, A- adapting the  L- learning  E-environment. SAALE MODEL had begun during 1970’s and  aimed to allowed disabled children to get the same curriculum. It is a universal design and gave extra opportunities of access to students. According to what is explained by her, SAALE MODEL has three main components which is adapted environment, adapted instructional environments which is planning and teaching, and Adapted evaluation.

Adapted environment have three components which is socio- emotional, physical and behavioral. It is used to alert to a certain situation in class. The second one is adapted instructional environment which consists of  lesson plan, techniques and so on. It is used to do some changes in the stated matters. the last one which is adapted evaluation consists of  students evaluation and grading and used in holistic evaluation. Fairness is a must.

The next presenter was Nadia. She was quite nervous at first but she managed to present confidently.. Her topic is ‘Autism’. It is an interesting topic actually. According to nadia, There are four major characteristics of autism which is communication, social interaction, unusual behavior and learning. Communication were divided into two component which is verbal and non verbal. Social interaction is difficulty relating to people, events or object. Unusual behavior happens when the children have repetitive moments,  insistence  on sameness and so on. In learning, children have cognitive problem in attention and so on.

There are few signs of autism. It is inability to relate to others, hyperactive or passiveness, poor or lack of speech, strange attachments to objects and so on. Teacher should use various methods to facilitate them. Teacher can use instructional approaches, plan task at appropriate level, provide clear and brief oral instruction, and provide relaxation opportunities. Teachers can also use social stories.

The last presenter was Yasmin. She presented about down syndrome children. Down syndrome children have few conditions which is delays, chromosonal condition, common abnormality in human [differences in IQ] nad so on. There is some identification of  down syndrome child. It is prenatal screening, after birth screening and pregnancy termination. There is some two types of educational institutes for the children which is regular school and specialized educational facilities.
